Gold Coast MTB Club Inc.

The Gold Coast Mountain Bike Club was established in 1990 by a dedicated group of mountain bike riders. Today the club has access to some of the nations best trail networks...these networks continue to grow each year through our members and volunteers.

The Gold Coast Mountain Bike Club was established in 1990 by a dedicated group of mountain bike riders. With over 120 members and easy access to some of the best trails in Australia, it has ranks among the most successful clubs in the country. The club caters for most ages and all MTB disciplines, both at the racing and social ride levels for Cross Country (XCO), Endurance (XCE) and Downhill (DH).

The Club was a major contributor to the Gold Coast’s successful bid for the staging of the 2018 Commonwealth Games and on the back of that success, lobbied for funding grants through various Queensland Government departments to construct and establish an Olympic standard Cross Country track at Hinze Dam. Stage 1 of this project has been completed with approximately 6km of single track open for riding whilst Stage 2 is currently underway and will see a further 5.5km added to the trail. In addition to the Hinze Dam project, our Club has worked closely with National Parks, Recreation Sport and Racing (NPRSR) to provide trail construction and maintenance within Nerang National Park by entering into a formal Trail Care Agreement. Our Club is supported in this venture by the MTB Trailcare Group who is alike minded collection of mountain bike enthusiasts dedicated to the maintenance, upkeep and construction of mountain bike trails. All trail construction and maintenance is performed to the standards adopted by International Mountain Bicycling Association-Australia (IMBA) who regularly conduct workshops throughout Australia including the Gold Coast region to ensure our trail care skills are kept updated.

The Club’s traditional home for Downhill riding and racing activities has been at the Hinchcliffe Mountain Bike Trails, Illinbah in the Gold Coast Hinterland near Canungra. This 600 acre working cattle property is well known throughout Australia and internationally as being home to one of the most technically difficult and challenging Downhill tracks. Well-travelled competitors consider it to be comparable with European tracks used for world class competition. Regular downhill social riding and race events are conducted at the venue when favourable weather conditions prevail.

Our Club has recently worked in conjunction with the Gold Coast City Council and IMBA on a project to recognise and legalise a Downhill and All Mountain trail system within the Eagle Heights Conservation Park, Mt Tamborine commonly referred to as ‘Old Tambo’ and advice has recently been received that funding for this project has been approved. It is expected that works on the Old Tambo project will commence in mid-September 2013 or earlier if possible.

Our Club has successfully hosted and staged competition events at Club, State and National level since its inception at various venues including Illinbah and Hinze Dam. With an unprecedented uptake of interest in mountain bike related activities, we anticipate a strong resurgence in membership and riding activities for both social and competition in all disciplines. With the 2018 Commonwealth Games being held on the Gold Coast, our Club has been instrumental in assisting with the planning for the Cross Country event being held as part of the event. This will no doubt highlight many other riding venues within the Gold Coast region for all visitors attending the Games and help establish the Gold Coast as a mountain biking tourism Mecca for all disciplines.

Welcome to our Club.
